Edited by Colleen Curran
About the Anthology
Anyone who is intimidated by the prospect of planning a wedding will laugh out loud and take solace in Altared. In this unexpected, heartwarming, thought-provoking collection, more than two dozen of our most perceptive and entertaining writers offer a wide range of takes on the modern wedding. It's all here. Fantasies. Realities. Fond memories. A few regrets. From planning it to doing it and everything in between.
Publishers Weekly
Curran solicits tart tales from 27 writers, normally willful and independent women, who, for the most part, have taken reluctant swan dives into the consumerist culture of the bridal industry… Brides-to-be or women who've been there will easily see themselves in these true stories.

Jackie's Essay: "First, Reader, I Made Him Up and Then I Married Him"
Jackie explains the stranger-than-fiction circumstances of her marriage to Christopher Brent — who arrives on her doorstep in March to create ornamental tiling and, five weeks later, was overnight transformed from a footloose 30-year-old bachelor to a dazed but delighted married father of four. An excerpt, 'The Conjured Husband,' appeared in Ladies Home Journal in September 2007, because Jackie essentially "made up" a fictional mate in her second novel The Most Wanted, that included eerie details pertaining to the real-life Chris, including his 18-foot Yucatan hammock and his fondness for building rock gardens and furniture from rough-hewn logs!
