Default I Wonder Whether Age Matters?

Obviously, this was a more plot-driven book and there was of necessity more focus on the action than character development than in most of Jackie's books. But there was clearly a lot of research required to make the story credible; I don't think that was a short-cut. After reading the comments here, I'm questioning whether experience counts in this case. There was so much unspoken yet clear among these characters; I thought it was quite artful that so much was revealed with just passing references or a brief encounter. But perhaps those nuances are only obvious if you've lived long enough to have friends who have been in your life for 25+ years, if you've gone through long separations and periods of great intimacy, if you've alternately and sometimes simultaneously loved and hated friends, walked away from them but always been drawn back by shared history and whatever core connection drew you together as children or teenagers and never really dies, even when you temporarily think it has (or wish it would)
